Sunrise Park on Mount Rainier (Tahoma)’s northeastern flank is only open a few months each year in late summer. It’s a special place with absurdly spectacular views of the stratovolcano and the surroundings.
Just southwest of the visitors enter, the Sunrise Rim trail sneaks through subalpine fir and spruce forests with sneaky views southeast towards the forested ridgelines connecting Chinook Pass and White Pass. It is here you can ponder the layers of ridges that line up like swells on the horizon, punctuated with peaks named Naches, Shriner, Crag, Dewey and Seymour.
