Manzanita, 2021
During the record breaking heat wave in June 2021, the Pacific Northwest hit temperatures over 115 degrees in various locations - inland, desert and even in the usually maritime population centers.
The massive heat dome set in during the summer solstice, when the sun is highest in the sky, and above the horizon for more than 16 hours each day, baking the entire region in stagnant heat without relief.
At the coast, temperatures hovered at 95 degrees or more, +30 degrees than typical. This scene was captured after sunset, with barely any movement of air and temperatures still above 90 degrees. It was hot, dry, and the sky reflected that oven-like heat and glow so perfectly with its chosen hues.
