 In the 1990's you could get back and forth from Golden to Frisco without much traffic, unless it was a saturday morning. Now, it seems that traffic is the daily monster that everyone has to deal with, requiring real alpine starts to beat the pulse through the Idaho Springs tunnel and then timing your return correctly to avoid the crawl back down to Floyd Hill. To many, it's still worth the effort because of the treasures that the corridor leads to. 
To me, the traffic and crush of people was simply too much, and leaving the state and its wondrous adventure possibilities was better than accepting the awful traffic issues. Sure, we could have moved to another part of the state (and there are a few locales that would be excellent living), but it just wasn't in the cards for our family. Maybe Colorado will finally install that monorail they've been talking about since the turn of the century...
